The Albany County Water Quality Coordinating Committee (ACWQCC), formed in 1991, is comprised of individuals, non-governmental organizations, and governmental agencies, who are all stakeholders in the quest to protect & enhance the quality of Albany County’s surface and sub-surface waters. The Committee focuses its efforts on nonpoint source pollution prevention and protection of the county’s water bodies and water supplies. The Committee also serves as a clearinghouse for water quality information, a funding source for small water quality improvement projects, and a forum where stakeholders can collaborate on projects and activities that protect and enhance the quality of the county’s water resources.
The primary functions of
the committee are to:
• Educate key land and water use decision-makers, well owners, and the
general public regarding nonpoint source pollution
• Demonstrate best management practices and other strategies to reduce
nonpoint source pollution
• Assess and prioritize critical watersheds annually
• Keep the public and local governments informed of the quality of Albany
County’s water resources
